Our Weekend

I know how frustrating it is to sign onto your favorite blogs and not see regular updates. So, if an effort to satisfy the cravings of my (very small) fan base here is what happened this weekend in the Wells World.
Saturday Cooper attended his first artisan show to show support to his Aunt Jane who was showcasing her jewelry there. We had lots of fun, got some love from total strangers and found these adorable vintage outfits at amazing prices!!!! It makes me want to scour Salvation Army and Ebay to find other pre-1980 smocked and applique pieces. We will definitely be visiting the Eastland Artisan Market on a monthly basis to raid Melodie's stock.

After the show we checked out Pied Piper Eatery in East Nashville that had gotten a great write-up in the Nashville Scene this week. The Frito Pie and Monte Cristo definitely get the thumbs up! We probably won't trek this way very often, but it's worth the trip!

Saturday night we hooked up with Nick and Meg at La Paz and had a yummy dinner. Cooper did pretty well and was just slightly fussy. I must admit though his fussiness distracted me more than I expected. This was the first time he hadn't slept through the entire meal and it threw me off a little. I guess this is why people stop going out to eat when they have kids??? Or get babysitters I guess...
The post-dinner entertainment included hanging out at Nick and Meg's talking, laughing, and playing Guitar Hero. Cooper really liked their apartment (he told me later) and other than almost getting attacked by their cat had a great time. Next time however he said he'll forgo the Dark & Stormy and go straight for the Jack & Coke. Just kidding...

Sunday was full of nothing. Absolutely nothing. In an effort to get Christopher rested for his week ahead we hung out at home, watched TV and cooked spaghetti. Other than changing clothes FOUR times, Cooper didn't do much either.

Next week... Mommy and Cooper, The Last Week. Yes, sadly my last week of maternity leave starts tomorrow. I know I will be battling my separation anxiety come next Monday but for now I'm going to hold and stare at my little man 24/7 and worry about next week next week.

Someone else's words than reflect my feelings today

How beautiful if nothing more
Than to wait at your door
I've never been in love like this before
Now let me pray to keep you from
The perils that will surely come
See life for you my prince has just begun
And I thank you for choosing me
To come through unto life to be
A beautiful reflection of his grace
See I know that a gift so great
Is only one God could create
And I'm reminded every time I see your face

Cooper is 1 Month Old!

Yes, I had a party for my one month old son. For anyone who thinks this is crazy I have two things to say #1. Deal with it. #2. Blame my parents who had a "Happy One Week Old" cake for me. We had some pizza, cake, ice cream and fun. Cooper slept through the whole thing. Well, until I woke him to take his monthly picture with his new elephant from Grandmama Wells.

The caption on this picture should read "Never wake a sleeping baby." I think I will try this shot again tomorrow so we can get a better disposition and have the proper scale so we can really compare his size to the elephant from month to month. By the way, a shout out to my friend Alyson for the idea to take his pic this way. She, of course, was smart enough to start her son's photos at the one-week mark... but I can't live up to that... so monthly it is.
At one month Cooper...
... is starting to burp on his own after bottles.
... likes to hold onto the bottle and can keep it upright if it has an ounce or less in it.
... is starting to track objects, but not really smiling yet (unless he has gas).
... is eating 3-4 ounces per meal and sleeps 3-4 hours at a time depending on how much he eats.
... hates his diaper changed, his clothes changed, and being given a bath.
... loves his swing, but his bouncy seat not so much.
As the best month of my life wraps up I'm looking forward to all the ups and downs of month #2 and glad that my new year's resolution is simply to be a great mom and wife. Everything else is just... cake.

Medical Update

Since I'm... no we... are up I figured I would give everyone a medical update on our little man. On Tuesday Cooper went to Dr. Long's office to be circumcised since it wasn't done at the hospital. FYI, they won't circumcise a baby that is in the NICU or having any kind of complications so we had to wait. Anyway, as of Tuesday he was 10 pounds, 7 ounces (keeping up with the ounce a day weight gain) and 22 inches long. The circumcision went well and was much harder on me than it was on him. I hope. He is healing nicely and won't have to return to the doctor until he is two months old! Yay!

It's 2:11 am...

... and although I kinda regret staying up till midnight watching some whack-a-doodle sci fi movie (The Golden Compass) with my husband, I wouldn't give up being the person that those big brown eyes stare at in the middle of the night for anything in this world. It's going to be a great year.
